ABOUT THE WORCESTER GUILD
SUMMER, 2007: Conversation begins regarding
the idea of starting a local guild of the Catholic
Medical Association in the Diocese of Worcester.
SEPTEMBER, 2007: Fr. Peter Beaulieu, Dr. Paul Carpentier, and Dr. John Howland met with Bishop McManus to discuss the formation of a local guild of the Catholic Medical Association (CMA). The Bishop was very supportive of the idea. A mailing with a cover letter from the Bishop was sent out to about 70 Catholic physicians.
OCTOBER 18, 2007: After the White Mass at St. Paul’s Cathedral, interested physicians gathered to discuss the feasibility of forming a local group of CMA. There was general agreement that the time was right to move forward with the project.
NOVEMBER 19, 2007: A second exploratory meeting was held in the home of Drs. James and Judith Hughes. The group discussed the question of the mission of the Worcester Guild. The consensus was that the Guild should initially work in three areas: education, support, and outreach.

A TIMELINE
What is the Worcester Guild? We're a professional
association of Catholic doctors in the Diocese of
Worcester, Massachusetts. We're doctors just like
you. We are family docs, surgeons, pediatricians,
dentists--to name just a few. We're medical
students and residents. We try our best to take
good care of our patients--the sick, the injured,
the suffering. We love Jesus Christ as our Lord
and our God. We love His holy Catholic Church. We
are sinners, saved by grace. We are seeking to be
faithful to our vocation as Catholic physicians.
NOVEMBER 28, 2007: An application was filed with
the Catholic Medical Association to form the
Worcester Guild. An interim set of
bylaws
were established and officers appointed as
follows: President: Dr. Paul Carpentier,
Vice-President: Dr. James P Walsh, Sec/Treasurer:
Dr. John Howland. Fr. Peter Beaulieu has
graciously offered to serve as chaplain for the
guild. In the near future an annual meeting will
be held at which time there will be an
opportunity for official election of officers and
discussion/approval of bylaws.
JANUARY 28, 2008: Our application to establish the Worcester Guild was approved by the Catholic Medical Association.
